OUR GUESTS IN "THE LEADERS' LOUNGE":
George Kouronis
Adventurer and Host of “Angry Planet”
Thursday, November 17th, 2011 – 7:00 p.m

George Kouronis’ efforts to document nature's worst weather conditions have taken him all over the globe, into places most normal people are fleeing from. Whether it's a tornado outbreak in Kansas, a monster hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico, forest fires in British Columbia, or even an erupting volcano, he's usually in the middle of the action with his camera rolling. His efforts have been seen around the world on the Discovery Channel, National Geographic Explorer, BBC-TV, CNN and of course, his own adventure TV program Angry Planet which has been broadcast in over 100 countries. The program airs on OLN, City TV, The Travel Channel, The Weather Channel, Halogen TV & others.
George is the first person to have ever filmed from the inside of 3 of world's most fearsome forces: inside a tornado, the eye of a hurricane and inside an active volcano.
Dynamic, funny and engaging, George Kouronis will step into “The Leaders’ Lounge” to share stories of extraordinary adventure, but also to talk about the nature of fear, and the importance of stepping out of your comfort zone.
"I'm not saying that people should run into hurricanes or take a rubber raft out onto a lake of sulphuric acid like I do,” says George. “But just to step out of their everyday life and do the things that they've always wanted to do but were too afraid to actually try. It is amazing what people are capable of if they just face their fears and go for it. Overcoming personal obstacles like that makes for some of the best memories and proudest moments of our lives. Your comfort zone is a terrible place to be.”
Join us on November 17th to hear tales of adventure, and perhaps the motivation you need to add the right new excitement to your life!

Shannon Moroney
Author of Through the Glass
Thursday, November 24th, 2011 – 7:00 p.m.

When Shannon Moroney married in October of 2005, she had no idea that her happy life as a newlywed was about to come crashing down around her. One month after her wedding, a police officer arrived at her door to tell her that her husband, Jason, had been arrested and charged in the brutal assault and kidnapping of two women.
In the aftermath of these crimes, Shannon dealt with a heavy burden of grief, the stress and publicity of a major criminal investigation, and the painful stigma of guilt-by-association, all while attempting to understand what had made Jason turn to such violence.
This fall, Shannon releases Through the Glass, an intimate and gripping journey into prisons, courtrooms and the human heart. In “The Leaders Lounge”, Shannon will discuss the motivations behind her book: the far-reaching impact of Jason's crimes, the agonizing choices faced by the loved ones of offenders and the implicit dangers of a correctional system and a society that prioritizes punishment over rehabilitation, and victimhood over recovery.-
Join us in “The Leaders’ Lounge” for an impassioned, harrowing and ultimately hopeful story of one woman's pursuit of justice, forgiveness and healing.
Shannon Moroney is a social justice advocate, teacher and counsellor. She has spoken internationally on restorative justice and has extensively toured Canada and the U.S., addressing university and high school students, prison inmates, legal and mental health professionals and law-enforcers on the ripple effects of crime for all victims and for society at large. She is a volunteer with Leave Out Violence and is a contributor to The Forgiveness Project, an international charity that encourages and empowers people to explore the nature of forgiveness and alternatives to revenge.

William Marsden
Author of Fools Rule: Inside the Failed Politics of Climate Change
Friday, December 2nd, 2011 – 7:00 p.m.

Kyoto, 1997. Montreal, 2005. Copenhagen, 2009. Cancun, 2010. Journalist and best-selling author William Marsden argues what while these inefficient and short-sighted political negotiations have become widely monitored events attended by state leaders and crowded with journalists, they have never been less productive. This despite the mounting scientific evidence that immediate action is essential to curb the effects of climate change.
Marsden argues that treaties and action plans are smothered by economic self-interest, diplomatic errors and every nation's hungry scramble for its share of the remaining atmospheric space.
In this edition of “The Leaders’ Lounge”, Marsden will take us from inside the bungled negotiations at Copenhagen to the melting glaciers and untapped oil reserves of the Arctic. He will show us the paralyzing effect oil and gas companies have on green legal initiatives in the United States, and therefore on any international climate change treaty; and, with wit and penetrating insight, ask the toughest question--will we be able to change before it's too late?
William Marsden is author of Stupid to the Last Drop and co-author of the national bestsellers Angels of Death and The Road to Hell. He is a senior investigative reporter for the Gazette in Montréal. This fall he will be releasing his latest book: Fools Rule: Inside the Failed Politics of Climate Change.
